“O Radix Jesse…”O Root of Jesse, you stand as a sign for the peoples; before you kings shall keep silence and to you all nations shall have recourse.  Come, save us, and do not delay.

Artist’s Comment:
I chose a Manzanita root burl as the symbol of the Root of Jesse. Manzanita can be found in our desert Southwest and this made the connection for me to the Isrealites who were living in the desert regions of the Middle East. The green alabaster is representative of the peoples who can be seen huddled around the root standing as a sign.

Reflection:
Isaiah 52:13, 15; 53:2: “See, my servant shall prosper…So shall he startle many nations, because of him kings shall stand speechless. …He grew up like a sapling before him, like a shoot”.
